About the Bookshelves

On Brooks’s 1st Birthday, (October 2019) we started Brooks’s Bookshelf.  With our mission to make children’s bookshelves more inclusive & diverse so that everyone realizes what makes us all unique, is really a wonderful thing!  And being unique is something to be celebrated!

Brooks’s Bookshelf was created in celebration of our son, Brooks. He is an inspiration to all who are lucky enough to know him. This bookshelf is a way to share the joy of reading and also spread awareness of Down Syndrome and other uniqueness. We handcraft and fill bookshelves throughout our community, and surrounding communities.  Each bookshelf will include books of all interest with specific books focused on kindness, compassion, and understanding individuals with unique differences.

Books will range from picture/baby, up to early readers.  The giving library is designed to foster an understanding of each child’s uniqueness.

Every story and every person is unique and beautiful. Children are welcome to take a book home in celebration of those differences. Guess what!? You can keep it or share it with a friend!

Have fun reading & learning.

A year later we added “Book Bundles”, which are donated to local hospitals and include; 3 books on Down syndrome, wrapped in a baby blanket with a couple of handouts, and a handwritten welcome note.

Brooks’s Bookshelf  Inc., is a 501 (c )(3) nonprofit organization and has been approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt, charitable organization. EIN 84-5012515
